PHILIP LIVINGSTON
(1716 - 1778) American merchant and signer of the Declaration of Independence, one of the founders of Columbia University. LIVINGSTON IS PAID AS A DELEGATE TO THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS Fine content A.D.S., 1p. 6.5 x 3.5 in., [Brooklyn?], Mar. 23, 1778. In part: 'Received from Mr. Gerard Banker [Hathorn's Regiment, N.Y. Militia] some days ago, by the hands of Mr. Peter Cantino, Five Hundred dollars in Continental Money, advanced me by the State of New York on acct. of mt Allow'ce as a Delegate to congress...' Boldly penned and signed, expertly inlaid. Livingston suffered from dropsy and his health deteriorated in 1778 - he died three months after signing this document.
