A rare antique cast iron statue of Peter I, 1672 to 1725, most commonly known as Peter the Great, a monarch of Russia who modernized it and made it a European power. The emperor holds a hammer in his hand while working at the anvil. Cast in Europe. Unsigned. Circa the late 19th century. Provenance: Sothebys, Russian Pictures, Works of Art and Icons, 14 June 2007, Lot 410. Antique Russian Bronze Sculptures For Collectors.
