19TH CENTURY STAFFORDSHIRE SAXON CHINA POTTERY DISH
An antique Staffordshire Pottery Saxon China serving dish. The dish is adorned with printed and painted patterns in autumn colours with an oriental design of peonies in an urn on a rococo scroll plinth, with further oriental vase and flower groups to the rim complimented by hovering butterflies, the rim with orange lustre line. The ware features scalloped rims, and an openwork design. Marked with a printed Saxon China stamp, on the backside, attributed to T.J. Carey. Circa: 1835. The partnership of Thomas and John Carey ran the Anchor Pottery at Lane End, Staffordshire 1823 to 42. One of their trade marks was Saxon Stone China, and the attribution to Carey hinges on the abbreviated Saxon China mark this piece bears.
