Isaac Ilyich Levitan, Russian, 1860 to 1900, oil painting on board painting depicting an evening in a village, a haystack, and a forest. Signed in Cyrillic lower right. Housed in a richly ornate gilt wood and gesso frame. Isaac Ilyich Levitan was a famous Russian artist. His paintings are a kind of standard Russian landscape painting. In his works, Levitan managed not only to masterfully display the beauty of Russian nature he saw but also to convey to the viewer the most subtle shades of his mood. The researchers define the style of Levitan's paintings as A mood landscape, his works convey not so much the beauty of nature itself as the emotions of the artist, reflect the inner world of the creator and infect the viewer with these emotions.
