AFRICAN NTUMU CARVED WOOD FANG BYERI FETISH FIGURE
A West African hand carved wooden Eyema Byeri fetish figurine from Fang tribe, Equatorial Guinea, art of the Fang Ntumu ethnic group. The piece is a byeri, the representation of an ancestor used in worship ceremonies. This figurine represents a female figure with exaggerated physical features and it is mounted on a wooden stand. The face is bounded from above by high semicircles of eyebrows and is often made in the shape of a heart, eyebrows, and nose form a single convex line, mouth, and small cut chin protrude strongly forward. The figure is adorned with brass round elements and wears a part of the jaw of a small animal with teeth. African Tribal Art And Carvings For Collectors.
