This lot contains 4 bound notebooks/account books containing family, grocery and food affairs, housekeeping between 1850 and 1943. Item 1 - Small book listing groceries and costs from D.M.F. Patterson, family grocer, Cheltenham, 1 and 2 Montpelier Avenue. In good condition in card covers with grocer's name printed in gilt. An incredible survival from a bygone age. Item 2 - A bills payable and receivable book with entries for 1880 etc. 8" x 4". Excellent condition for this small ledger-type book in publisher's marbled boards. Item 3 - Small book listing purchases from family butcher E.C. Davis, 4 Christchurch Parade, Gloucester Road, Cheltenham. Listing tripe, lights, bacon, liver. Also a few red penny stamps of George V. Date of entries 1911. Excellent condition in red boards, advertising the above butcher. Printed in gilt. Item 4 - Booklet containing listings of expenditure at 25 Leckford Road, 17th May 1943. Entries in approximately 60 pages between May 1943 and November 1944. Expenditure on all the everyday food items, i.e. cheese, eggs, nut meat, corned beef, suet, bacon, bread shredded wheat, soya, sausage, kidney, sausage rolls, salad cream, milk, pilchards, fats, fish, Twining's, spinach, etc., detailing all prices. This little book is highly interesting in detailing food available during the latter part of WW2. Excellent condition in boards. The 4 items as one lot.
