Remember the Warsaw ghetto. London [1945]
REMEMBER THE WARSAW GHETTO - Published by FEDERATION OF POLISH JEWS IN GT. BRITAIN. London, [1945]. A rare and one-time booklet that extensively reviews the events of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, shortly after the end of World War II.
"The 40,000 Jews who remained in the Warsaw ghetto possessed weapons in the heroic struggle against the Gestapo. Armed with weapons supplied by the Polish underground ... they fought with poor arms against Hitler's units equipped with tanks and machine guns ...". The pamphlet, which is one of the earliest known evidence of what happened during the uprising, describes in detail the stages of the uprising, beginning on April 18. It describes how in the first phase of the uprising the Germans suffered heavy casualties, and how they responded to the burning of every building that came their way. There is an accurate description of the streets where the Jews fought, Asking for help. "On behalf of the millions of Jews who were burned, tortured and slaughtered", which was addressed to the Allies for help. There is a list of the names of the streets that were completely destroyed during the uprising, the names of public buildings that were destroyed, and the reaction of individual Jews to the flames that gripped everywhere. The middle pages of the booklet contain a long list of names of those who perished in the Warsaw ghetto uprising. At the end of the booklet is the agenda of the "National Mourning Day" in memory of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, organized by the Federation of Polish Jews and held in Britain on April 19, 1944, with the participation of important statesmen and ministers.
