Towards the end of the war, tens of thousands of Jews who survived selections were transported in various ways to several camps in the Third Reich. Towards the end of the war the death marches multiplied and the prisoners were led long distances in marches that lasted many days in snow and cold without food, water, clothing or proper shoes. Many of them died on the way from exhaustion, starvation or were killed in road shootings by the Nazis. Some of them arrived exhausted to Bergen-Belsen. As of January 1945, the conditions of the prisoners in Bergen-Belsen soon deteriorated, and tens of thousands of people died there. Some died slowly for days and weeks without any treatment. In March alone, 18,168 prisoners died in Bergen-Belsen. Prisoners were sent to Bergen-Belsen almost until his release on April 15, 1945, and the number of prisoners in the camp increased from month to month in parallel with the huge mortality rate. For the purpose of evacuating the bodies, SS men were taken to work; Also, the governors of the province of Southern Saxony and the heads of all the localities in the area were brought by the British army to watch the atrocities. The facts came as no surprise, as they were aware of them, and cooperated with the SS throughout the war years.
