Buchenwald - Cursed Land - France, 1946 - Copy with dedication and signature of the author

BUCHENWALD TERRE MAUDITE By André Respaut, published by Imprimerie Réunies Brieu-Canal - Narbonne (France) 1946. Early publication about the horrors of Buchenwald by the inmate of the camp, André Respaut - a rare copy with a dedication signed by the author. Due to lack of paper, the book was printed on cheap brown paper. The cover design showing the camp inmate on a blood background, by Ray Monlaur.

Early testimony of prisoner André Respaut who was arrested by the Gestapo on charges of espionage, and joining underground groups, as well as being accused of publishing journalistic material against Nazi Germany. After torture investigations in an attempt to 'get' secrets out of him, he was sent to the Compiegne camp, and a few months later transferred to Buchenwald. In the publication that came out immediately after the war, he describes in great detail the daily occurrence in the Buchenwald camp, the countless times he survived a certain death, and the way he survived with his last forces. Andre goes on to describe the Nazis' discriminatory treatment to the Jews, as well as the fate of the weak who did not have enough strength, the dozens of campmates - prisoners killed in strange deaths, and particularly harsh descriptions of children and even babies who came with their parents to the camp and were murdered by the Nazis cruelty. He describes difficult and inconceivable scenes of prisoners who out of weakness and helplessness tried to poison their fellow prisoners to win their share of bread before being brought for burial, and more.
