A letter from the Mekubal Rabbi Yitzchak Badhav, Jerusalem 1889


A letter in the handwriting and signature of Rabbi Yitzchak Badhav - in his letter, Rabbi Badhav asks Rabbi Yaakov Cohen for charity in his difficult situation when "babies asked for bread".  Kislu 28, 1889.


Rabbi Yitzhak Badhav [1860-1947], born in Jerusalem to Leah and Rabbi Michael Badhav, who served as SDR Kululot of the city. His mother's father was the Rishon LeZion and HaChacham Bashi, Rabbi Yitzhak Kobo. At the end of 1886, he went on a mission from the Kabbalistic Yeshiva Beit El as SDR to Tripoli in Libya, where he stayed for about a year and returned to Jerusalem in the winter of 1888. In April 1901 he began to serve as a Talmud teacher at the yeshiva of Rabbi Haim Hezekiah Medini in Hebron. From his youth he collected from his savings and began to purchase books, ancient manuscripts and rare documents, and built one of the largest libraries in Eretz Israel, and became known as having a vast knowledge of Midrash books Association for Research and History and Rabbinic History.
