Palästina - a historical-geographical study of the Land of Israel by the German geographer Karl Georg von Raumer - Leipzig, 1850. Accompanied by folded diagrams and boards - among them a colorful map of the Land of Israel which opens 43x40 cm. German.
A comprehensive study by the German geologist and geographer Karl Georg von Raumer [1783-1865] on the geography, climate, and inhabitants of the Land of Israel, its sites and settlements, with an emphasis on the Hasmonean period, from Herod the Great to the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus - the borders of the land, the number of its inhabitants and the division into the various nations that lived in the land, and its landscapes during this period. The author's goal was to better understand the Bible by understanding the physical structure of the earth. An extensive chapter is devoted to discussing the physical accuracy of engravings of the Land of Israel that have appeared in the famous travel books of the past few centuries. He also points out inaccuracies in the writings of Flavius Josephus compared to the findings arising from his visit to the East. In this edition, the author added important findings from the results of studies he conducted using a microscope that was distributed to the public in those years, and compares his findings to those of the traveler Wilson and other explorers. The author writes that unlike previous years when you found one traveler somewhere who came to the Middle East, at the time of the publication of the book "For English travelers, the journey to the East becomes commonplace from day to day". At the end of the book is an index of Hebrew words edited by Prof. Drechsler.
