Rare photograph of the Jewish market day in Pinsk, 1920s

Rare photograph of Jews gathering on Market Day in Pinsk. Described on the back in handwriting: "Pinsk jewish market Sobornaya Street" Pinsk, 1920s.

On Sobornaya Street in the old city of Pinsk stood the grand synagogue. Market Day was a vibrant and bustling scene. The market served as a central economic and social hub for the Jewish community. On Market Day, which took place every Tuesday, the streets were filled with people from all walks of life buying and selling various goods, including food, clothing, and household items. In the 1920s, the Jewish population of Pinsk numbered around 50,000 people, accounting for about half of the city's total population.

In the 1930s, the Jewish market in Pinsk was destroyed by the Nazis. The Jewish community in Pinsk was annihilated during the Holocaust, and the market was never rebuilt.

9x14 cm, the photograph is divided back for use as a postcard and described in handwriting.
