Four matchboxes - Berlin Olympics 1936
Four matchboxes from the 1936 Munich Olympics held in Nazi Germany. Extremely Rare.
- A box with a label of the sprinter Jesse Owens, the hero of the Olympics, where he won 4 gold medals in the 100m, 200m, long jump and 4x100m relay. Owens was the first athlete in history to win 4 gold medals at a single Olympics and the first long jumper to jump over 8 meters (8.13 meters). He held the world record for 25 years. Owens "disappointed" the Nazi propagandists who regretted seeing the "black" athlete from the "inferior" race reap medal after medal in the events in which he participated. On the back of the box is an advertisement for the Volkswagen car.
- The Jewish-Hungarian athlete Csák Ibolya - Olympic champion - at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Csák won a gold medal in the high jump competition with a result of 1.60 meters. Ivoya Čak was the first female athlete to win an Olympic gold medal for Hungary.
- The Japanese athlete Sohn Kee-chung who won the gold medal in the marathon at the Olympics, setting an Olympic record time of 2 hours, 29 minutes and 19.2 seconds. Sohn was a Korean citizen, but he was forced to compete as a member of the Japanese delegation since Korea was under Japanese colonization at that time.
