On June 7, 1942, the Jews in the areas of France occupied by the Germans were ordered to wear an identification mark. The badge - a yellow Star of David with the word "Juif" ("Jew" in French) in the center - Jews over the age of six were ordered to sew into their clothing on the left side of the chest so that it would stand out in a public place.
