The Memoirs of Mendel Beilis - New York 1926 - First English edition

The Story of My Sufferings, by Mendel Beilis. Published by Mendel Beilis Publishing co., New York 1926. Introduction by Hermann Bernstein.

Memoir of Mendel Beilis recounting his life story beginning from the day he was accused of murdering a Ukrainian Christian boy named Andrei Yushchinsky in order to prepare matzos from his blood for Passover in April 1911, the trial in which he was falsely accused and imprisoned based on perjury, the final acquittal two years later in October 1913, immigrating to Eretz Israel in 1914 and then to the USA. In 1917 after the revolution an investigative committee was formed regarding the case; its findings revealed that authorities were aware of the true circumstances and staged the trial for antisemitic reasons. Beilis resided in New York, and a few years later self-published his memoir there in Yiddish and English.

Beilis recounts here his story of suffering, sorrow and experiences in simple, direct language. Accompanied by photographs of Beilis, his family, and figures from the affair.
