Mediterranean Basin: Landscape, Architecture, and People's Life in the Mediterranean Region - An Important Large-Format Photography Book

Das Mittelmeer: Landschaft, Baukunst und Volksleben im Kreise des mittelländischen Meeres  - The Mediterranean: Landscape, Architecture, and People's Life in the Mediterranean Region – A High-Quality Photography Book Featuring 320 Photographs Taken in the Mediterranean Basin – Eretz Israel and Its Surroundings by the Swiss Photographer Martin Hürlimann. Published by Atlantis-Verlag, Berlin and Zurich, 1937 – First Edition.

A photography book documenting the Mediterranean region in all its diversity – the landscapes of Eretz Israel, the Nile Valley and Egypt, the Greek islands, Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Morocco, and other significant sites throughout the area. The book features rare photographs of key locations in Eretz Israel, including prominent sites in Jerusalem – the Western Wall, the Temple Mount, the Mount of Olives, and its surroundings – alongside a fascinating visual record of the Mediterranean Basin's landscapes, unique architectural structures, and the rich cultures that have flourished around it. It also includes sharp close-up portraits of Mediterranean figures. The book offers a broad perspective on the unique geography of the Mediterranean – from the rocky shores of Sardinia to the tranquil, sandy bays – with a focus on the interrelationship between the natural landscape and human settlement. It highlights how climate and topography have shaped lifestyles, architecture, and structures in the region. The photographs reflect the evolution of Mediterranean architecture – from ancient buildings to modern styles, emphasizing the fusion of tradition and innovation. Additionally, they capture the daily lives of the inhabitants, their traditions, customs, and diverse folklore, showcasing the region's immense cultural richness.

All photographs are displayed individually on full pages.
