Handmade New Year's Postcard from the Admont DP Camp – Upper Austria, September 1946.

A handcrafted New Year's greeting card from the Admont DP Camp, featuring the handwritten blessing "L'Shana Tova" in red and luminous colors, along with dried flowers affixed to the card and a pasted photograph of a couple. On the reverse, a New Year's greeting in Hebrew reads: "…May G-d grant that the new year brings us health, happiness, and success." The location "Admont Camp" and the date 9/24/1946 are also inscribed.

The Admont DP Camp was established in 1946 in the town of Admont, Upper Austria (Styria), on the grounds of a former monastery. The camp housed survivors who had been liberated from concentration and labor camps in Germany, such as Dachau and Bergen-Belsen, and were transferred to DP camps in Austria. Some arrived via the "Bricha" movement, which helped smuggle survivors on their way to Eretz Israel. Despite facing many challenges, the displaced persons in Admont formed a vibrant and supportive community. The camp operated educational institutions, including elementary and secondary schools, a folk university offering vocational courses for adults, as well as cultural activities such as theater, a choir, and sports groups. Many prepared for a new life, with aspirations to immigrate to Eretz Israel. The camp remained active until the late 1940s, when most of its residents immigrated to Israel or other countries, leading to its closure.
