Hand-Painted New Year's Postcard – Sent by Mail. Hungary, Early 20th Century
A hand-illustrated New Year's postcard featuring an image of a dignified Jewish man, dressed in a tallit, holding his beard, with the Hebrew blessing "L’Shanah Tovah Tikatevu" and a Hungarian greeting "Szivélyesen üdvözli" ("Warmly greets you"). Hungary, Early 20th Century.
On the front left, the Hungarian inscription "Szivélyesen üdvözli" - "Blesses You Warmly" appears alongside the signature of the artist, Gábor Nánay. According to the handwritten inscription on the back, the postcard was sent to a young girl named Feuermann Ilonka, addressed to Polgári leányiskola IV. oszt, a secondary school for girls (equivalent to middle school), via the Hungarian Royal Postal Service (MAGYAR KIRÁLYI POSTA).
9x14 cm. Stains. Good condition.
