"Today we publish the first official photographs taken in Nuremberg Prison just minutes after the execution by hanging..." – Issue of "Ce Soir" Covering the Execution of Nazi War Criminals
Issue of the French Newspaper Ce Soir ("This Evening") – October 25, 1946 – Featuring the First Published Photographs of Nazi War Criminals Executed by Hanging Following the Nuremberg Trials.
The front page displays photographs of Göring, Keitel, Ribbentrop, and Sauckel, with the caption: "Today we publish the first official photographs, taken in the morgue of Nuremberg Prison, just moments after the execution by hanging of the greatest criminals in history. From top to bottom: Hermann Göring, Minister of Aviation and President of the Reichstag, who poisoned himself on October 15 at 22:45; Wilhelm Keitel, Chief of the Wehrmacht, hanged at 1:20 AM, declared dead at 1:44 AM; Fritz Sauckel, the Reich’s slave labor overseer, hanged at 2:26 AM, declared dead at 2:40 AM; Joachim von Ribbentrop, Minister of Foreign Affairs, hanged at 1:14 AM, declared dead at 1:32 AM."
On the back page, additional photographs of the executed war criminals appear, including Julius Streicher, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, Alfred Rosenberg, Hans Frank, Alfred Jodl, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, and Wilhelm Frick. At the top of the page, it is stated: "These photographs were taken by a U.S. Army photographer. They are the only ones authorized for reproduction by the press."
