A photograph of Youngsters and members of the Bnei Akiva youth movement on a sailing trip to Jordan in the first year of its founding in 1930. Zalmania "Crystal", Hadera. Rare.
The movement was founded on the holiday of Lag B'Omer in Jerusalem in 1929 by Yechiel Eliash (21 years old), Menahem Haruvi (Kharovski) and other members of Hapoel Hamizrahi. In fact, the movement was established before that, on the 26th of Adar I of that year, but on Lag BaOmer, 1929, the number of members in the movement was 80, so it was decided that this day would be defined as its official establishment.
