AMERICAN CIVIL WAR VETERANS BADGE. Two-piece German-silver badge, retaining pin and clasp. Top bar engraved with name C.L. MULLER. Suspended shield: “Co. C / 82nd’ ILL. Vol. Inf. 1st Div.” Star at bottom, the insignia of the 20th Corp.

The all-Jewish company (designated the Concordia Guard) was organized on September 26, 1862. C.L. (Carl) Muller enlisted on that date and remained with the unit for three years, rising in rank to First Sergeant.
The “Israelitisch Company” gained much fame and respect over the course of the war.
