Born to a Jewish family in Dusseldorf, Germany, Julius Eichberg (1824-93) was the musical director of the Boston Museum. He composed and performed first opera composed in America (The Doctor of Alcantara). Father of musical education in America’s public schools as he introduced this curriculum in Boston’s public schools. Performed with John Wilkes Booth in Boston. Buried as identifiable Jew in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
