Discovery! The Reception Ceremony for the Gaon the Aderet who Came to Jerusalem to Assist Rabbi Shmuel Salant
The letter was sent to rabbi Shmuel Salant himself and includes a detailed description of the Aderet's arrival to Jaffa and Jerusalem.
Touching Historical Letter Sent by the Heads of Hava'ad Haklali of Jerusalem to the Rabbi of the City Rabbi Shmuel Salant, Informing Him about the Arrival of His Assistant and Successor (So They Thought) the Gaon, the Aderet, Rabbi Eliyahu David Rabinowitz Te'omim!
The letter is from the 24th of Adar 1901 and in it, the leaders of the functionaries of Jerusalem describe the reception for the Aderet and his family and the plans for the following days.
The letter is signed by the three heads of Hava'ad Haklali: Rabbi Gedalya Nachman Broder, Rabbi Asher Dov Sussman and Rabbi Yosef Ziv.
On the margins of the letter, they added a request to Rabbi Eliyahu Mordechai [Eisenstein], Rabbi Shmuel Salant's secretary.
Historical background:
The Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu David Rabinowitz Teomim, the Aderet (1843-1905) immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1901 at the request of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, to serve as his assistant and eventually replacer. However, the Aderet died four years later, still in Rabbi Salant's lifetime.
