R. Moshe Alshich (1508-1600), was a Talmid of R. Yosef Karo (Beis Yosef) and R. Yosef Tiatzik. He was born in Turkey and emigrated to Tzfas where he became a Talmid of the Beis Yosef, and later served as a Dayan on the Beis Yosef’s Beis Din. Revered for his phenomenal scholarship both in the revealed parts of the Torah as well as Kabbalah, he has the distinction of being referred to as the Alshich HaKadosh (the Holy Alshich). His talmidim include R. Chaim Vital and R. Yom Tov Tzahalon (MaHaRITaT”Z).
