R. Yitzchok Elchonon Spektor (1817-1896), was renowned for his Torah genius, diligence and righteousness. He was the supreme Torah authority of his generation and led Lithuanian and Russian Jewry for many years with understanding and wisdom. He served in the Rabbinate from 1837. In 1864, he was appointed to the distinguished position as Rav of Kovno. His responsa and novella were printed in Be’er Yitzchok, Nachal Yitzchok and Ein Yitzchok.
