Tzvi Yisroel. Hesped on R. Tzvi Hirsch Rabinowitz. Only Edition. Vilna 1910. Extremely Rare.
Eulogies on R. Tzvi Hirsch Rabinowitz, Rav of Kovno, by R. Moshe Menachem Mendel Kazlovsky, Dayan in Vilna.
R. Tzvi Hirsch Rabinowitz (1848-1910), was a son of the legendary R. Yitzchok Elchonon Spektor and studied primarily under his father. Between the years 1877-1880, R. Tzvi Hirsch headed the famous Kovno Kollel which he established together with his father.
An outstanding Talmid Chochom, he was a candidate for the position of “Rav Ha’Kollel of New York City, (eventually filled by R. Yaakov Yosef) with the recommendation of Bais Ha’Levy and the Netziv. Upon the passing of R. Yitzchok Elchonon in 1896, R. Tzvi Hirsch was appointed as Rav of Kovno where he served until his passing.
He was one of the fiercest opponents of the “Mussar Movement” and therefore disagreed with the approach of the Knesses Yisroel Yeshiva (Slabodka). He therefore founded the Knesses Beis Yitzchok Yeshiva, later headed by R. Baruch Ber Leibowitz. (See Pulmos Ha’Mussar for an extensive discussion of this disagreement).
