Astronaut Edgar Mitchell's Copy of Flying Saucer Review (Sep./Oct.1966)
Original copy of the London based publication, Flying Saucer Review (Vol. 12, No. 5) from September/October of 1966 (33 pages). This magazine is from the personal collection of Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell.

This original copy of Flying Saucer Review contains an article, A Ten Point Research Proposal, authored by one of the world's foremost researchers on the UFO/UAP phenomenon, Jacques Vallee. Vallee has spent a lifetime in the scientific pursuit of UFO and paranormal phenomenon. Initially an advocate for the extraterrestrial hypothesis when it came to the UFO subject, his research led him to expand his view to include more complex theories, such as a multidimensional hypothesis. Vallee's article in this issue, offers a 10-point proposal for scientific, data-driven research of paranormal phenomena. Of note, Vallee served as the inspiration for the character of the French scientist in Steven Spielberg's blockbuster hit movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). Vallee also served as a consultant to Spielberg on the film. In addition to the article by Vallee, this issue of Flying Saucer Review is extra-special in that it comes from the personal collection of Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell. Mitchell became a vocal advocate for the scientific study of consciousness and paranormal phenomena after experiencing space travel and walking on the moon. In his post-NASA years, Mitchell advocated for the extraterrestrial hypothesis when it came to the subject of UFOs and asserted that the portions of the government were involved with reverse engineering exotic material recovered from UFO crash sites.
