After Auguste Rodin (French, 1840-1917), Bronze Sculpture, Burghers of Calais
This sculpture is cast after Auguste Rodin’s original that was a public commission rejected by the city of Calais due to its misunderstood Modernism. Auguste Rodin changed the expected Classical pyramid composition and lack of heroic allegories for a representation of six barefoot prisoners with ropes around their necks who walk to hand over the keys to the city of Calais to the King of England. Heavy green patination. A. Rodin inscribed to center of the piece.
Dimensions: 28"L x 18"W x 25.5"H
Condition: Age related wear. Black marble base has cracks in two places.
