Bucks County, Pennsylvania Tiger Maple Double-Lidded Cutlery Box
A Pennsylvania Tiger Maple Double-Lidded Cutlery Tray / Box, Bucks County, First Half 19th Century. The dovetailed box having a hinged lid to either side, divided by a shaped handle with crescent-form cut-out, raised on ball feet mortised through the bottom board. The interior with an old typed oral provenance inscribed,
"This knife box was given to Elizabeth Palmer by Cynthia Holcomb. A prominent Quaker from Pineville who was a farm journal correspondent - Nom de Plume Mary Sydney. Her father kept his horses at the "friends's home" and was a bank Director - First National."
Dimensions: Height 9 1/4in; width 13 1/2in; depth 10 1/4in.
Provenance: Cynthia S. Holcomb (Bucks County, Pennsylvania, d. 1913).
