Numerous illustrations in color, in text and on separate sheets protected by tracing paper with patterned decoration. Fully complete exemplar, no stamps. "The Queen of Spades" with drawings by Alexander Benoîs is the famous and best in the history of domestic book publishing edition of the story of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, published by the printing house of suppliers of the Court of His Imperial Majesty the partnership R.Golike and А.Wilborg and printed on high quality handmade laid paper. The publication was designed by the outstanding watercolor artist, art critic Alexander Nikolayevich Benoîs (1870-1960), founder and inspirer of the famous art association "Мir iskusstva" (World of art). Contemporaries saw in him the living embodiment of the spirit of artistry. A. Benoîs did a meticulous job preparing and implementing ideas for decorating the book. In the design of the text, there is a stylization of the books of Pushkin's time. Each chapter is illustrated with color drawings: one on a separate page and one at the beginning and end. The text is accompanied by a critical article by N.О. Lerner, which briefly reviewed the history of the creation of `The Queen of Spades`, its meaning and the attitude of Russian literary criticism towards it were analyzed.
Condition: bad, the backbone is mostly lost, the fastening of the cover and the gatherings of the unbacked book has fallen apart, the gatherings are loosely connected to each other and partially fall out, dirt and moisture spots on the cover and some sheets.
The edition is of artistic value.
