Baú Namban de finais do séc. XVI/XVII
Namban chest from the end of the 16th, early 17th century, Momoyama period (1573-1615), in wood (Japonica cryptomeria) coated with black lacquer (urushi) and golden lacquer (maki-e) with mother-of-pearl (raden) inlays. Profuse decoration with plant motifs. Cover and front with reserves depicting roosters and other birds, among plant motifs. Inside the lid is decorated in gilt and mother-of-pearl inlays with stylized floral and plant motifs. Reserves framed by friezes with a geometric pattern in mother-of-pearl and edgings of namban (karacusa) tendrils in gold. Engraved and cut copper hardware, some replaced. Some restorations. wear, failures, faults and defects. Dim. approx.: 22.5 x 32.5 x 19 cm.
