RABBI CHAIM YOSEF DAVID AZULAI (1724-1806), disciple of Rabbi Chaim ben Atar and of Rabbi Shalom Sharabi, outstanding gaon, kabbalist, commentator, halachic authority and author of some 100 rabbinic works, in addition to numerous marginal notes on large numbers of books and manuscripts acquired during the course of his extensive travels to collect funds to support the poor of the Holy Land.
