One of the most famous athletes of his time was Erich "Ete" Rademacher, who was the most successful German swimmer in the 1920s. He set around 30 world records and won 998 competitions during his career. In Magdeburg a street and the outdoor swimming pool are named after him. Prof. Otto Poertzel (1876-1963) was an internationally highly regarded sculptor. His Chryselephantin figures now fetch up to five-figure sums at auction.

Porzellan, weiß, glasiert, Siegerpreis in Form einer übergroßen Plakette, mittig die reliefierte Ansicht eines Schwimmers beim Start, am Startsockel die Künstlersignatur: Prof. Poertzel Coburg, umlaufende Inschrift: WELTRECORDSCHWIMMER ERICH RADEMACHER S.C. HELLAS MAGDEBURG, altersgemäß gute Erhaltung, D. 14 cm, in einer mit violettem Samt ausgeschlagenen Kassette, Deckel innen mit der Banderole: Kreisfest Coburg 1927 Wasserballsieger, 2,2 x 18 x 18 cm (HxBxT)
Zu den bekanntesten Sportlern seiner Zeit zählte Erich "Ete" Rademacher, der in den 1920er Jahren der erfolgreichste deutsche Schwimmer war. Er stellte rund 30 Weltrekorde auf, errang in seiner Laufbahn 998 Wettkampfsiege. In Magdeburg sind eine Straße sowie das Freibad nach ihm benannt. Prof. Otto Poertzel (1876-1963) war ein international hochgeschätzter Bildhauer. Seine Figuren von Chryselephantin erzielen heute auf Auktionen bis zu fünfstellige Beträge.
