During renovation work on the tomb of the martyr Cecilia (180-230), her sarcophagus was opened in 1599. An perfect preserved body was found. To capture this miracle, the sculptor Maderno was commissioned to create a sculpture of the deceased. The figure can still be viewed today in the Cecilia Church in Rome-Trastevere. She is said to have played the organ during her own forced marriage. That is why the saint is venerated today as the patron saint of musicians, singers and instrument makers.

Bei Umbauarbeiten an der Grabstätte der Märtyrerin Cecilia (180-230) wurde 1599 ihr Sarkophag geöffnet. Man fand einen tadellos erhaltenen Leichnam vor. Um dieses Wunder festzuhalten, wurde der Bildhauer Maderno mit der Anfertigung einer Skulptur der Verblichenen beauftragt. Die Figur kann noch heute in der Cecilia Kirche in Rom-Trastevere besichtigt werden. Bei ihrer eigenen Zwangs-Vermählung soll sie die Orgel gespielt haben. Deshalb wird die Heilige heute als Schutzpatronin der Musiker, Sänger und Instrumentenbauer verehrt.
