Manuscript and Signature of Rabbi Eliyahu Halevi Av Beit Din of Alessandria – Long Halachic Responsum

Long halachic responsum handwritten and signed by Rabbi Eliyahu Halevi Av Beit Din of Alessandria. The responsum was sent to his disciple Rabbi Shlomo Michael Yonah Av Beit Din of Torino. Alessandria, 1764.

The first responsum is about Marot and Ketamim. The second responsum is about a man who became sick and his name was changed, how to write his name on the Ketubah, whether to write his first or second name. The letter opens with words of praise by Rabbi Eliyahu to his disciple "The words of the rabbi and the words of the disciple my disciple my friend … like a son like a brother to me … and his words are pleasing …" In the responsum, the rabbi in his wisdom debates at length until the Pesak Halacha. At its end, he agrees with the Pesak of Rabbi Yonah which was written to him in his letter.

After the signature, several additional Italian lines and a signature. Later, rabbi Eliyahu Halevi added approx. half a page, an additional responsum about the husband's name on the Ketubah.
