20th c. Russian Icon Madonna & Child
One 20th century Russian icon of Madonna and Child, or Mary and Jesus. Overlaid with silvered metal riza or oklad, decorated with foliate designs, and pierced to reveal the figures' faces, hands, and Jesus' feet.
Unframed; height: 12 in x width: 10 in. Framed; height: 17 in x width: 15 in.
Condition: The overlay is tarnished and has residue of polish throughout the recessed areas. There are minute losses throughout the overlay. The image beneath has white accretions throughout. Along the right side of the face of Jesus there is a loss measuring approximately 1 inch long. There are slight abrasions throughout the image. There is faint craquelure throughout the image of Mary and Jesus. Not examined out of frame.
