Chronometer Iron Mechanical Bank
Unknown Manufacturer American - 1880 A chronometer is a timing device with a special mechanism for ensuring and adjusting its accuracy. In this light, we find winged "Father Time" busily tuning and adjusting the coin registering meters every time another penny is deposited. Coins are dropped into the slot at the top of the bank. The weight causes the mechanism to record the deposit. Two small display windows indicate the number of pennies deposited. The bank registers up to 100 pennies before both dials reset to zero. Little is known about the manufacturing origin of this fascinating registering bank. However, in terms of its design, the Chronometer Bank can be clearly linked stylistically to the "Bow-ery Bank" and to the "Time is Money" bank. All three of these are extremely rare and desirable. This may be the finest known example of the "Chronometer" Bank. Pristine Condition.
