All-Steel Indian Elephant Goad Combination-Dagger, 19th c.
19th century all-steel Indian elephant combination-dagger, known as ankus or Indian elephant goad from South India. The goad is carried by the elephant driver known as a Mahout. The pointed tip and dual elephant trunk shaped protrusion to the face is double edged and inlaid to the remainder in silver decoration, the shaft has a series of iron rings and at the base features a pommel in brass. Carved brass pommel is in the shape of a lion head with a smaller lion protruding in pierced carving. The pommel can be unscrewed from the shaft revealing a stiletto like four sided blade for puncturing. Size overall 18 7/8" L blade 6 1/2" h x 5 1/2" w
