Almost all the best that appeared in Russian fiction from the late 1820s to the late 1830s was published by Smirdin. He published works by A. S. Pushkin, N. V. Gogol, V. A. Zhukovsky, I. A. Krylov, and P. A. Vyazemsky. He published editions of Russian writers of the XVIII century, in particular M. V. Lomonosov and G. R. Derzhavin. To Smirdin literary work was not considered a profession, and was a matter of rich people who didn't need the fees. Smyrdin introduced a permanent fee payment, the amount of which was quite high. In the second half of the 40s of the XIX century. Smirdin publishes a mass edition of the Complete works of Russian authors in 1/8 of a sheet, at a price of 1 ruble per compact volume. The significance of the publication of this publication was great, since previously the nobles preferred mainly foreign literature. For ten years (1846 - 1856), collections of works by more than 35 authors were published, including K. N. Batyushkov, D. V. Venevitinov, A. S. Griboyedov, M. Yu. Lermontov, D. I. Fonvizin, Empress Catherine II and many others. The series "Complete works of Russian authors" represents a whole library of 70 volumes.

"Works of Pushkin (Vasily Lvovich)" include Epistles, fables, fairy tales and poems. This collection reproduces the 1822 edition with the addition of several new poems. V. L. Pushkin is known primarily for his comic poem "Dangerous neighbor", as well as as the author of imitations of ancient and French poets, frivolous satirical poems and jokes. He considered himself a pupil of I. I. Dmitriev and a follower of N. M. Karamzin, and translated several fables by La Fontaine, Florian, and others. Vasily Lvovich treated his famous nephew with the greatest admiration, which he expressed in his letters to him.
