"Explanatory dictionary of the living great Russian language" - the main brainchild of Dahl, who was given 53 years of life. In 1861, for the first issues of the Dictionary, Dahl received a gold Medal
In 1868, he was selected as an honorary member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, and when all the volumes of the dictionary were published, he was awarded the Lomonosov prize.
