Second edition, revised again.

Russian Russian Russian Orthodox Church (ROC, until 1988 — "old Orthodox Church of Christ") — legally and canonically independent religious Association consisting of old believers-priests who take care of the Belokrinitsa hierarchy; considers itself as a continuation of the historical Russian Orthodox Church that existed before the reforms of Patriarch Nikon; is not in prayer and Eucharistic communion with other churches, with the exception of the Russian Orthodox old believer Church in Romania. Despite the removal of the "oaths" by the Moscow Patriarchate in 1971, the latter does not recognize the hierarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In the literature, there are names of the Russian Orthodox Church: belokrinitskoe consent, Belokrinitskaya hierarchy-after the name of the monastery in Belaya Krinitsa in Northern Bukovina, which was part of the Austrian Empire. Due to the latter circumstance, the current was also called the Austrian hierarchy in Russian pre-revolutionary literature.

The modern hierarchy of the ROC emerged in 1846, when the Episcopal leadership of the Church hierarchy was restored.

Nikolai Ivanovich Subbotin (1827-1905) - Russian Church historian, honored Professor of the Moscow theological Academy, privy Councilor.

In October 1852, he was appointed a teacher at the Bethany Seminary: in the higher Department, he read Church history and Church law; in the middle Department, he taught Church and Bible history. From November 1853, he was also assistant inspector of the Seminary. He presented his master's thesis "on the relations of the Russian clergy to the princes from the XI century to the half of the XV century" in 1854. He was approved for a master's degree on November 12, 1854, and a year later was moved to the Moscow theological Academy, where from November 1855, with the title of bachelor, and from February 24, 1859, with the title of extraordinary Professor, he taught biblical hermeneutics and the doctrine of faiths, heresies and schisms. From November 1857, he also served as assistant inspector, from September 1860-assistant librarian, and from November 1862 was librarian of the Moscow theological Academy — remaining in this position until may 1864, when he was appointed Secretary of the Committee for censorship of spiritual books.

Under the new Charter of 1869, a separate discipline was set aside from the teaching of faiths, and Subbotin headed the new Department of history and denunciation of the Russian schism in 1870. In the same year, he was elected a member of the Council of the Moscow theological Academy.

By 1874, he had completed a large work "the Origin of the so-called Austrian or Belokrinitskaya hierarchy" (Moscow, 1874), which was presented to them as a dissertation for the degree of doctor of theology, which was awarded in July of the same year. In September, he was confirmed as an ordinary Professor at the Moscow theological Academy, and in November, the academic Council elected him assistant rector for Church history, a position he held until September 1883.
