On 31.3.1949, the Israeli postal services issued a stamp displaying the flag of Israel. Before us is the first day cover with the stamp and the special postmark "Long Live the State of Israel!" On the side of the envelope there is the picture of Binyamin Ze'ev Herzl, the Prophet of the State. Under his picture, there is a quote of his words from 1897: "In Basle I have founded the State of the Jews … in fifty years, every man will admit this".
The handwritten signature of the announcer of the establishment of the State and its first Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion, is displayed on the envelope.
David Ben Gurion (1887-1974), of the Second Aliyah, the leader of the 'would-be State', who pushed for the establishment of the State. He announced the establishment of the State and headed it for more than a decade until 1963. He served as the first prime minister and defense minister of the State.
Very good condition.
