"I ASK THAT HE NOT DISTURB ME WITH THAT THE CHASSAN IS NOT GREAT IN HEIGHT BECAUSE TO PEOPLE WITH OUR VALUES THERE IS NO HINDRANCE IN THAT" – Letter from Rabbi Chaim of Barzna Regarding Future Son-in-law
A letter written by Rabbi Chaim of Barzna to his future son-in-law, Rabbi Shimon Shlomo, and his father, Rabbi Yitzchak of Bender, regarding the date of the wedding and their obligations towards wedding expenses.
Based on the letter it seems that the issue of the chassan's short height arose prompting Rabbi Chaim's request "… that he not disturb me with that the chassan is not great in height because to people with our values there is no hindrance in that…"
Rabbi Chaim of Barzna was the son of Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Lubshov and son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Patchnik of Barzna. He succeeded his father-in-law as leader of Barzna and served in this capacity until his passing in 1907.
