The Gateway to Science is an encyclopedia of youth published in Israel in 1974 by Masada Publishers.

The encyclopedia was a translation of an encyclopedia of youth published by Marshall Cavendish in 1970 .

Cavendish Publishing is a British publishing house specializing in publishing science books for teenagers.

The encyclopedia consisted of ten volumes, each containing about 150 pages. Each volume included a collection of articles on various topics, arranged in a continuous sequence, accompanied by illustrations, maps, photographs and diagrams, which were usually colored. At the end of volume 10, an index of all ten volumes was presented, which included several hundred subjects that were covered in the volumes of the encyclopedia itself.

The encyclopedia focused on a number of topics - physics , biology , geography and medicine , and at the beginning of each volume was a table of contents that divided the articles appearing in the volume by these topics.

The editor-in-chief of the encyclopedia was the anthropologist Mordechai Wurmbrand , along with a team of translators and editors with names such as Yoram Kirsch, later known as one of the founders of the Open University , or Prof. Zvi Wolberg .

In terms of the level of writing and the depth of the study, the encyclopedia suited the high school or middle school students, although its authors designated it even for "parents and teachers". The articles were updated for their time, and included modern topics such as laser beams or space medicine .
