Kukryniksy

The creative group of the soviet graphic artists and painters: Kupriyanov Mikhail Vasilyevich (born in 1930), Krylov Porfiriy Nikitich (born in 1902), Sokolov Nikolay Alexandrovich (born in 1903). Studied at Higher State Art and Technical Institute/ Higher State Art and Technical Studios (during 1921-1929). Worked together since 1924. Created a new type of caricatures, marked by the acute topicality, published in the newspapers and magazines (“Pravda”, “Krokodil”, etc.). Posters and “Okna TASS”, created during the Great Patriotic War, were very popular. In 1942 Kukryniksy were awarded the USSR State Prize and Lenin Prize (1965) for the political caricatures and posters. Worked much in the sphere of book illustration. Their works are exhibited in the State Tretyakov Gallery, regional museums, as well as in many private collections in Russia and abroad.
