Sefer Yesod: Responsa of the Rashba. First edition. Bologna, 1539.

Only 22 Hebrew books were printed in the city of Bologna.  This first edition volume of the responsa of R' Shlomo ben Aderet, student of the Ramban, includes index pages that are lacking in many extant copies.

Rabbi Shlomo ben Aderet - Rashba (c. 1235-1310), was an extremely important wise and gifted student from Barcelona. He was a student of the cousins Rabbi Yonah and Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman (Ramban). After the Ramban immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1267, the Rashba became the undisputed leader and spokesman of Spanish Jewry. His influence was enormous, and he was known as "El Rab d'España" (Rabbi of Spain). The Rashba was a prolific writer who wrote novellae on many parts of the Torah. His novellae are one of the most learned to this day. Halachic questions were sent to him from many communities, and his responsa greatly influenced future generations of halachic commentaries.

The printers known as "The Partners, Makers of Silk-work" issued Hebrew books in Bologna between 1536 and 1540. The Rashba's Responsa was their eighth publication (out of nine).

Bologna, 1539. The Partners, Makers of Silk-work.
