Vissarion Grigoryevich Belinsky (1811-1848) was a Russian publicist, writer, and one of the most famous literary critics in Russia, who wrote articles about Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, and other famous writers and poets. He was born in Finland, then moved with his family to the Penza province, where he spent his childhood. After graduating from the Penza gymnasium, Belinsky entered Moscow University in 1829, from which, however, he was expelled under the pretext of failing health, after the young writer gave the Moscow censorship Committee his drama "Dmitry Kalinin", dedicated to serfdom and caused a sharp reaction of the Committee's professors.

Since 1833, Belinsky V. G. began to publish in the magazine "Telescope", and a year later - in the magazine "Literary dreams". His critical articles were distinguished by a sincere, Frank style of presentation, as well as the ability to subtly notice weak points in works of art, which soon won him wide popularity among the public. In 1836, the writer, along with friends, began publishing the magazine "Moscow observer", whose discovery marked the author's serious passion for philosophy. In 1839, Belinsky moved to St. Petersburg and began publishing in the magazine "Otechestvennye Zapiski", which later published two of his famous articles on the work of Mikhail Lermontov.
