[Jan Ernestovich Rudzutak (Latvian: Jānis Rudzutaks; August 3 [15], 1887, tsauni farm of the Kursish volost of the Goldingen uyezd of the Courland province of the Russian Empire, now Latvia — July 29, 1938, Moscow) was a revolutionary, Soviet state, party and trade Union leader.

Member of the RSDLP since 1905, held Bolshevik views, since 1906 member of the Riga Committee of the RSDLP. Since 1907, he was at the head of the Vindava party organization and was arrested. In 1909, he was sentenced by a military court to 15 years of hard labor (due to his underage age, the term was reduced to 10 years), and served his sentence in the Riga Central and Butyrskaya prison in Moscow. After liberation, during the February revolution, he was Secretary of the all-Russian Central Council of the textile workers ' Union, and a member of the Presidium of the Moscow Council of trade unions.

On may 25, 1937, he was arrested by the NKVD of the USSR on charges that he headed an anti-Soviet nationalist Latvian organization, engaged in sabotage and was a spy for foreign intelligence services. At the meeting of the Military Board, he pleaded not guilty.

Executed on July 29, 1938.

An audit conducted in 1955 found that the case against Rudzutak was falsified and he was convicted on the basis of defamatory materials. Posthumously rehabilitated and reinstated in the party.]
