Sergey Ivanovich Abakumov (1890 - may 7, 1949) - Soviet linguist, doctor of Philology, Professor. Corresponding member of APN of the RSFSR (1947). In 1912 he graduated from Kazan University, where he studied at the faculty of history and Philology. After higher education, he moved to Moscow, where he worked as a teacher and conducted research work in some universities and research institutions, including such as MSPI. V. I. Lenin (1933-41) and research Institute of teaching methods APN (1944-49). He considered linguistics and teaching methods very closely, and finally came to the conclusion that students need to be given an idea of the Russian language as an integral system. He emphasized the practical importance of exercises in mastering the norms of correct grammatically and stylistically constructed literary speech. It was he who developed the classification of stylistic errors, albeit approximate, as well as a program of work on style in school. He attached great importance to the development of speech abilities of students. He worked on the original theory and a new method of reading ("Creative reading", 1925). Most of his ideas are relevant today. Among them, the idea of the need for "active" reading, creative assimilation of the text, the idea of a different methodological approach to reading business and literary texts, the idea of methods of conversation in the form of "question-answer" and others. Formed the theoretical and linguistic basis of punctuation of the Russian language, and later on this basis founded the methodology of teaching punctuation in high school. The main attention was paid to the problems of teaching Russian at universities, his book "Modern Russian literary language", released in 1942, was the first such textbook. This book is the most complete and systematically correctly presented all sections of the training program, as well as a brief overview of the history of grammatical teachings. Teacher of linguist T. V. Wentzel - the addressee of the autograph.
