The Mariinsky Women's Gymnasium was opened in Saratov in 1859. Initially, it was located on Priyutskaya Street in the house of the merchant Mamin. According to archival materials, the gymnasium was opened "for the training of visiting girls from noble families" and over its long history changed many rooms, until finally it found a specially built building for it.

In 1905, on the corner of Alexandrovskaya and Konstantinovskaya Streets, according to the project of architect A. N. Klementyev, an educational institution was opened, which became an exemplary one in Saratov for many years.

The Mariinsky Gymnasium was named after the Empress Maria, the teaching staff was carefully selected and only highly qualified teachers could count on a place in this institution. All the rooms were kept perfectly clean and tidy, and portraits of royalty in heavy gilt frames decorated the walls.

The October Revolution changed priorities, and the gymnasium building housed a secondary school, the number of which was changed twice in 1918 and 1941. During the Great Patriotic War, the gymnasium became a hospital, and in 1946 the building was occupied by the aviation technical school. Dementyev, who trained specialists for the newly opened and rapidly developing Aviation Plant in Saratov. Closed until the 1990s, Saratov with the defense industry in the mid-90s ceased to need qualified specialists in the aviation industry and in 2009, the College of Information Technology and Management was opened on the basis of the technical school, which is located in the building of the Mariinsky Women's Gymnasium to this day. On the building there are memorial plaques of three heroes who studied in this building at different times, including the winner of the Lenin Prize Bykov Yuri Sergeevich, the first chief designer of radiotelephone communication with manned spacecraft.
